1st Year:
2016-17 First year Apprentice Class

 

This page is a brief overview of the 2017-18 academic year and is subject to change. You will be given as much notice as possible for any modification, changes will be listed here.

Please make sure Heather and the Local Union office (272-2809) have your most recent contact information, including home and cell phone numbers, email and home mailing address.

You should plan on attending class every Wednesday through the end of June 2017.

Your primary instructor for this year will be Chad Rider, his phone number is 339-8117, he has your contact information.

2nd Year:
2nd Year Class 2016-17

3rd Year:
3rd Year Class 2016-17

Make sure that Heather and the Local Union office (272-2809) have your latest contact information, home mailing address, phone number(s) and email. 

All classes are held at the Training Center 134 Cecil A.Malone Drive from 4pm-9pm unless other wise noted. 

Your primary night of class will continue to be Thursday nights.  There may be times when you will be combined with another class which will require you to attend class on a different night.  For example the foremanship class will be on Tuesday nights Jan 5-Feb 2.  All classes are subject to change at the discretion off the instructor, you will be given as much notice as possible.

Please direct all questions regarding your apprenticeship to Heather Mulks.

This years classes look like this:

Motor Control, Basic Foremanship, Lighting fundamentals/labs and introduction to solar essentially in that order.

Jake B will be your instructor for the motor control class. 

Evaluations are due at the last class of the month. Work reports are to be sent to Jake B. no later than one week from the end of each quarter for Jan/ March, April/June, July/Sept and Oct/Dec using the on line form. There is a zero tolerance for this requirements.

The current plan is to be complete with classes by the end of June 2016. You should plan on that.

 

 

  
4th Year:
4th Year Class 2016-17

 

Please make sure you have provided Heather and the Union office your current email address and phone number if you have not already done so.

All classes 4pm-9pm at the Training Center 134 Cecil A Malone Drive Ithaca unless otherwise indicated.

Your primary night for classes continue to be Mondays.  If your are combined with another class you may have to move to another night and you will be given notice.     

This years classes look like this:(subject to modification) 

      -NEC, motors, variable speed drives, structured wiring and local area networks . Note industrial prints will be moved to next years and combined with a basic overview of BIM systems. 

We are booked through the end of June so plan on it. 

Evaluations are to be turned in at your last class of the month.  Work reports are to be sent to Jake B. no later than  one week for the end of each quater for Jan/March, April/June, July/Sept and Oct/Dec.There is a zero tolerance for this requirement.

You are required to be at all other classes. Again, your classes will be in session unitl the end of June 2017. 

 


5th Year:
5th Year Class 2016-17

 Jake B will be your instructor for the OCPD lessons. 

All classes are from 4PM-9PM at the Training Center at 134 Cecil A. Malone Drive and are subject to change at the discretion of the instructor and/or training director.

Please ensure that Heather and the Union office have all your current contract information including address, phone number(s) and email addresses.

You are required to be at all classes.

This years classes look like this:

Overcurrent protective devices, Building automation 2, Fire Alarms, Basic Foremanship, Welding, NEC Calculations, and Power Quality, essentially in that order. 

Evaluations are due on your last class of the month (the day you are actually in the classroom). On line work reports are required to be sent to Jake B. no later than one week from the end of each quarter for Jan/March, April/June, July/Sept and Oct/ Dec. There is a zero tolerance policy for these requirements

You should plan on being in class until the end of June 2017, we will try to improve that by a few weeks.

CW/CE 2016-17

All CW/CE's are welcome in any or all of the journeyman classes.

Please call Heather Mulks for details (607-342-8267) and  to confirm your attendance. Also if you are interested in any other training not listed let Heather know.

Classroom Training -

Tuition-Free Classroom Training

900 hours of classroom training-

A minimum of 900 hours of classroom training over a 5-year period. Related classroom instruction consists of a minimum of 900 hours of classroom training over a 5-year period. Classes are held from September through June. Classes for each apprentice class are scheduled one night a week without compensation. Lessons will include: History and Structure of the IBEW and NECA, first aid, safety, CPR, tools and material, AC-DC theory, fire alarm, motors and control,conduit bending,blueprint reading and much more.
